3/31/10

So, I actually went out and ran today. Thoughts:

1. It was the first truly warm, springlike day of the year today. It topped 70. Yeah, running in that after months of winter running and little adjustment was kind of rough.

2. I noticed a definite difference already in terms of the strength training I've been doing. While breathing/cardiovascular-wise I didn't feel the greatest, my arms and my legs felt pretty great.

3. Had a random biker compliment me, saying I was running strong. Wh-hoooo!! :)

I'm working on eating better all around. That's another thought for another time, but I am legitimately working on it.

3/30/10

Well, I haven't been running much. I have been boxing and "biking" and strength training and a little bit of running here and there.

I am a Wii Fit junkie. I absolutely LOVE the boxing. LOVE it.

I do know that at some point, I will have to get back out there and actually run. There's a lot more daylight now, so I have plenty of time in the evenings to do so.

I love the Wii Fit. I LOVE the Wii Fit. I. Love. The. Wii. Fit.

OK, you get my point.
Still... I can't deny that thing when it's there staring at me, and I'm here by myself. The scale went up again, just by a fraction of a pound, but that's inconsequential. I did some great strength training exercises, and the damn running loops. I'm actually quite horrible at those. It's funny, because one would think someone with a blog entitled "run, (name), run!" would be good at those, especially when they're targeted at a non-running population. Oye. Oh well, it's fun, it's challenging, I like it.

3/15/10

I can't do my usual breakdown of what I did. That's because, well, I didn't do what I usually did.

See, last night, I got brave and finally tried the Wii Fit that's been living in my apartment for a couple weeks now. I am officially in love!
Though, it hasn't been without the "ugh" moment that comes with the weight measurement. Yes, I, like legions of other females out there, have self-confidence issues regarding my weight. But, anyway... I was really excited with the original number from my initial "weigh in". Like, really super happy. Then, I was informed that the balance board is pretty inaccurate on carpet. So, today, I set it on my much more stable coffee table and stood up on that. And then, that number shot up 8 pounds. Yeah. The Wii was like "wtf??" Yeah. OK, so the numbers all in all aren't that bad, but they aren't great. I was pretty happy with the number from yesterday as a starting point. This new number...gah.
Today was also my first experience with yoga poses. I like it, I really do, but either I'm doing something wrong, or my associations are off, because it didn't feel too much like a work out to me. I'm used to gasping for air, pouring sweat cardio aerobic stuff. This was different. I liked it, I really did, but it was different.
So, yeah.

3/14/10

Today's run: 2 miles
Week total to date: 2 miles
Month total to date: 2 miles
Lent total to date: 18 miles

OK. I said I wouldn't slack again and I did. Well, sort of. I did have a big change hit on March 1--I started an 8 week long-term subbing job. Getting in to the groove of the Mon-Fri work week again after the slack fest that was January and February was rough. Then, Thursday of that first week, I hit some ice in the school parking lot and ate pavement, resulting in a nicely screwed up ankle. It took about a week for all the soreness to go away.
But, today, it was just too nice to sit in my living room. Spring is visiting the UP a bit earlier than usual. (I say visiting because, well, I've lived here for 6 years now. We're gonna get one or two more good cold snaps and snow storms before we can call it true spring around early May.) I had to get out there. And it was pretty great. I over dressed a little and was really warm by the end, but it was awesome.
Also, Daylight Savings Time freaking rules. I'm OK with losing an hour, I'm OK with readjusting my inner clock. It's worth it knowing it'll be light until almost 8 now. That means I don't have to run right after school if I want daylight. I have more time. That is hopefully going to help SO much. :)
And, as for the Lent challenge--I'm going to try and get as close as I can, but I can't see the full 120 happening. Not giving up, not by any means, but just being realistic.
